AN ANGRY HUNGER
Young Jennifer and her sister Sarah lost their mother to an early death. Their father, though a loving man was ill-equipped in rearing two young daughters. So rather than take a wife he brings in a governess, Miss Catherine, to provide the girls with the proper education young girls would need to become a lady in Victorian society and to be ready to wed when the time came.
The new governess is a welcome addition to their home and Jennifer and Sarah become drawn to her as she seems to be to them. This situation is a relief to the girl's father who is most happy spending time in his study working on historical investigations and producing missives about his findings. Over time he became less and less involved in the day-to-day lives of his daughters. However, as Jennifer grew older slowly that the cracks in her family's veneer of normality began to show, and dark and hungry things began to stir beneath the surface.
The first inkling she had was in her sixteenth year, She noticed their governess was a lady of unusual habits like late-night horseback rides in a long black cape and knee-high leather boots. At the same time, Jennifer's nights began to be disturbed by visions of growing unease and intensity followed by a strange presence that plagued her every night. Over time the girl dismissed these aberrations as part of growing up.
